[OD] The OPS Act [PASSED]
Obsidian
Price
Stabilization
This act will lower the price of obsidians making them more easily obtainable as well as give some miners an extra paycheck.
Please note, phase one and two involves buying and selling gems, so the initial budget will not reflect the overall budget at the end.
Initial budget: $10,500,000
Process: 15 obsidians will be purchased for $700,000 each (total: $10,500,000)
They will then be sold for $400,000 each (total: $6,000,000)
Actual funds used: $4,500,000
Estimated time: 1-2 days
Effects: Lower obsidian prices (~$400,000 - $475,000) & increased money flow
- Buying and selling limited to *4* per person -

Eh, I think the obsidian is fine where it is, it has always been in the same range and only fluctuates slightly

It will also help the players who sell the obsidians to NEWB for $700,000 each.

Yes.
I know you've been wanting to do this for a while now, but don't buy for $700,000 each. Be frugal and buy at $650,000 (or lower) while you still can. But over time, this will be very beneficial, as you could continue to buy and sell as the price goes down until a desired price range is reached ($300,000-$400,000). Another thing would be to limit them to 4 per person, so one person can't buy them all up and ruin it.

I say yes but do it the way counts said with the limiting it to 4 per a person and buy at $600,000 to 650,000. It will cause a good flow of money through the person who is selling the obsidian and the end effect will be great by causing the price of obsidian's being lower.

No. The price of the obsidian is good where its at. In my opinion 500k is a good, fair price. Lowering it could reduce the amount of donations made to the server for obsidians.

Exactly this.
I understand if Obsidian prices were getting out of hand, but they are quite stable. Also, we don't want to take money from Sinavestos' server fund.

Obsidian's are not really the main part of sin's server fund, I would assume VIP and Diamonds would.

When people donate, they go all out. They buy like 5 obbies and 10 diamonds. Why? I don't know but it helps the server, and I like it. If Obsidians are too low, nobody will want to spend $5 on them, they'd rather earn the easy 400k. Also, once we run out of Obsidians, or stop doing this eventually the price will go right back up and this would have been a waste of money that could have gone to a better effort to help new players.

Re: [OD] The OPS Act [PASSED]
Analysis of this proposed policy.
Phase One
Categorized as a government purchase program.
Beneficiaries: Obsidian sellers
Losers: Obsidian buyers, our budget
Overall impact: Loss
Phase Two
Categorized as a subsidy. Effective while our obsidian supply lasts.
Beneficiaries: Obsidian sellers (as an entire group), obsidian buyers
Losers: Our budget (who cares)
Overall impact: Loss
Phase Three
Also categorized as a price ceiling, done by artificially adding competition to the market.
Overlaps phase two, but carries on longer than phase two until someone decides to bump up the prices again.
Beneficiaries: None
Losers: Obsidian sellers, obsidian buyers (as an entire group; a single obsidian buyer may benefit)
Overall impact: Loss
Comments
The main concern is not to penalize obsidian sellers. In order to maintain price stability, obsidian sellers need to be willing to produce. We don't want obsidian sellers exiting the market. If we discourage miners too much, the goal will only be sustained for a short period of time.
The goal is to reduce obsidian prices. I don't expect this to be a long-lasting effect, unless we don't suddenly diarrhea-shit out obsidians into the market.
So we also need to encourage mining to maintain the natural equilibrium at a low price. This is why we should introduce SOPA. My vote is a conditional yes, on the condition that SOPA is passed.
